Segel Setzen (2023)

Workshop, Textile, Mixed Media
In collaboration with Amrei Kapfhammer

As part of Kinderferienakademie Kunst&Krempel

As part of the larger art project for children Kunst&Krempel, Segel Setzen (Setting Sail) used large panels of fabric, plastic, and canvases to create sails, floating objects, and curtains. The finished art pieces were then hung up and left to float in the Munich Olympic Park.

Throughout the 2 weeks, the various objects made from textile materials by the children changed the appearance of the park. The open atelier invited children to think about the public space of the park as a temporary gallery, creating new rooms and spaces, perspectives and movement.

Elements such as wind and rain left their mark on the sewn objects, transforming them over the 2 weeks. In collaboration with the other art workshops, the park was hence turned into an open-air exhibition, inviting the visitors of the park to admire the artwork and participate in the creation of new pieces, culminating in a final floating parade across the lake.
Kunst& Krempel is a biannual project that invites artists and children to experiment and create new art pieces in different ateliers. The festival takes place every two years during the first two weeks of the summer holidays in Munich. It is free for children to participate and requires no registration.
