Reflections on Embryo Models (2026)

Silkscreen
In collaboration with Tash Kimmell

Commissioned for the International Dutch Embryo Meeting 2026

The three posters were developed in conversation with Luca Braccioli (Biologist) and Ana Maria Pereira Daoud (Ethicist) of Utrecht University. The idea of the posters was to show three different aspects of embryo modelling research: the current stage of development, the potential applications of the models, and the surrounding ethical debate.

The first poster purely celebrates the beauty of the models and the scientific achievements they represent. The second poster focuses on what the potential uses of these models could be - both for medical development and a better understanding of the “blueprint of the human body”. The last poster highlights some of the ethical dilemmas that come with the research: “What is a sentient entity? When is an entity worth protecting? How do we tell fact from fiction?” Together they become an artistic representation of the burdens and benefits of the work with embryo models - a visual exploration shown through four colour silkscreen prints.

The posters were shown during the International Dutch Embryo Meeting 2026 in Utrecht.
